AMEC Black & McDonald holds the Health and Safety of people and the protection of our environment as fundamental values when carrying out our business activities. We strive for continuous performance improvement for these integral aspects of our business and create a culture that believes that every incident, regardless of magnitude, is preventable..

AMEC Black & McDonald:
•  Complies with all legislative requirements pertaining to safety, health and the environment as its minimum standard;
•  Demonstrates SHE leadership within the business community that we operate.
•  Cooperates with and engage our employees in the prevention of incidents both on and off the job
•  Ensures that all business decisions take proper account of Safety, Health and Environmental considerations
•  Develops and maintains a SHE management system that comprises processes and procedures that provide for:
 

  • Identification and communication of SHE risks and how to quantify and manage them.
  • Systems of work that minimise risks to safety, health and the environment;
  • Suitable arrangements for the safe selection, use, handling, storage and transport of articles and substances;
  • Adequate information, instruction, training and supervision to enable work to be carried out safely and without risk to the environment by persons with the necessary competence;
  • Safe premises, work places and welfare facilities, including access to and egress from them;
  • Equipment that is safe to operate;
  • Designs which recognise, include and apply safe practice during preparation, construction and subsequent operational use and maintenance, and which consider lifecycle environmental impact including decommissioning and disposal;
  • Prevention of polluting emissions to air, land or water;
  • Efficient use of natural resources;
  • Control of noise, dust, odour, vibration, traffic movement or other nuisance or environmental effects which may cause offence to the local community or environment;
  • Waste minimization and management of waste disposal including recycling where appropriate;
  • Consultation, occupational health and advisory facilities as required.
